HIKING AND MOUNTAIN BIKING
In 1997 the area around Castello del Trebbio was declared a Natural Protected Area. It covers 600 hectares with altitudes ranging from 400 m to 992 m. (Mount Giovi). There are 8 main hiking trails (you can ask for the map at the reception office), and many other secondary trails, one recently opened called the “burraie” track. You can find itineraries from 30 minutes with a 46 m difference in height to others of almost 2 hours with over a 450 m difference in elevation.
Within this Natural Protected Area you can find rare kinds of animals and flowers. Among these, 5 different kinds of orchids, several types of butterflies, rare day and night birds, wild boar, deer, badgers, hares, and pheasants.
All that seems to be impossible being only 15 km from Florence’s city center!
One of the most impressive places, with magnificent views of the valley, is the Sanctuary of Madonna del Sasso (556 m), built in the 15th century. In the church of the Sanctuary we can arrange for your wedding.
MOUNTAIN BIKE lovers can also enjoy a ride through the narrow yet picturesque country roads.
