Wine Tours
Castello del Trebbio was built in the twelfth century. It is surrounded by a 350 hectare estate (54 hectares of vineyards and 10,000 olive trees) and is bordered by native forest. Once owned by the Pazzi family, it was the scene of the attempted murder of the Medici brothers in 1478. The current family bought the estate in 1968 and have restored it to its respective architecture. The family currently lives in the castle.

During the 1 hour tour of the castle’s courtyard, private chapel (or conspiracy room) and the cellars, the group will hear the history of the castle and of the Pazzi conspiracy and will be able to view the Pazzi coat of arms sculpted by Donatello. The tour concludes with a visit to the old castle’s wine cellars where our wine is aged and our extra virgin olive oil is stored. The group will learn about the Chianti region and how the wine and oil are produced in Tuscany.

Four wines are offered for tasting:

Bianco from the Castle (Bianco di Castignano or Bianco della Congiura)
Chianti DOCG Castello del Trebbio, last harvest
Chianti Rufina Riserva ‘Lastricato’ DOCG
Vin Santo del Chianti Doc

These wines are served with typical Tuscan antipasti: Pecorino cheese, Finocchiona salami, fettunta (crispy bread drizzled with our extra virgin olive oil) and 2 other kinds of “crostini”.
The Vin Santo is served with cantuccini, our local biscuits with almonds.
Our grounds offer many beautiful photo opportunities and after the tasting, the group is welcome to wander amongst the grapevines and olive trees.
